Creative effect plug-in that adds motion and energy to your music

iZotope Mobius Filter is a creative effect plug-in that can add infinitely ascending or descending motion to your music. Based on the auditory illusion of the Shepard Tone, the filters within Mobius Filter appear to defy logic, producing perpetually rising or falling effects that can be easily manipulated with a playful X/Y pad.

The ever-ascending or descending results bring emotional impact to a track: as an intensifying build-up to a chorus or drop, or as a creative effect on guitars, vocals, drums, and more. Music producers can turn to Mobius Filter as an inspiring alternative to a standard flanger or phaser, as the antidote to a lackluster bridge or arrangement, or as the spark for psychotropic sonic textures.

Mobius Filter: Key Features

Infinite filter potential

Mobius Filter creates the sensation of constant movement in your audio by applying the concept of the Shepard Tone to filters instead of pitches. Depending on your preferences, your audio can rise or fall at varying speeds for complex—but easy to achieve—spatial movement. Combined with automation in your audio editing software, the possibilities with Mobius Filter are endless.

Move over, flangers and phasers!

Mobius Filter can take over for phasers on your guitar tracks to produce unique and fresh filtered tones. When a solo isn’t quite cutting it, try Mobius Filter for that extra nudge of character. On distorted instruments, introduce needed motion and activity to an otherwise steady track. Fire it up on a psychedelic rock session for a modern spin on retro vibe-y flanger tones.

And now for something completely different

Set Mobius Filter aggressively and then dial back with the Mix control to get a sense of complex motion while still preserving your mix. Liven up a dull vocal track without detracting from the intelligibility. For a bridge that isn’t getting anywhere, add Mobius Filter to the vocals, one of the instrument tracks, or even on the whole mix. Create an emotional swelling or descending effect on sections of the mix with perpetually rising or falling filters to bring it all back from a drop or enhance a transition.

Mobius Filter on Guitar

Mobius Filter goes beyond standard phasing and flanging by running seemingly infinite filters in the same direction, giving your guitar track a unique rising or falling effect. Apply Mobius Filter to a guitar bus with two rhythm guitars panned left and right and a single arpeggiated lead -this technique unifies the guitar tracks so that they work together more cohesively, affected by the same modulation.

Mobius Filter on vocals

When looking for phasing or flanging effects on vocals, Mobius Filter gives you a fresh new sound by running seemingly infinite filters in the same direction. This lets you choose between all upward movement to build tension and excitement, or all downward movement to release tension. Processing the entire vocal bus has the effect of gluing the lead vocal and backing harmonies together.

Mobius Filter on a mix

Filters are often used to build, build, build and then release energy in a mix, connecting with and influencing the emotional state of a listener and taking them on a journey while they experience your music. Use the resonance in Mobius as a “riser,” with a perceived ever-increasing pitch as the track builds to the drop. Automation within the audio editing software will control Mobius Filter’s Center Frequency, Resonance, and Speed and provide the rhythmic filter dives and climbs at the drop.
